Drama News
On Wednesday 19th October Year 10 Drama students had the privilege to head to St Clare's Primary school to perform Children's Theatre performances to students in K-2. It was a successful morning where the group presented three separate sessions to infants students. Year 10 were met with smiles, encouraging words and requests for high fives. It was such a fun and fabulous morning!
This event was a wonderful service learning opportunity for our Year 10 Drama students and gave them an opportunity to present their work to their target audience for their Children's Theatre practical assessment. The class had been working towards these performances for about 8 weeks and the groups put a huge amount of thought and effort into their piece through thoughtful costumes, props and the application of a range of dramatic and performance elements.
Our first group made up of Emma Burrows, Amy Dransfield, Olivia Kosiak, Andraya Liebrand and Olivia Young presented an engaging and highly physical recreation of Aladdin. The piece featured the lovable Aladdin and the other characters from Agrabah including Jasmine, the King, Jafar, Genie and a few cameos from Abo in the form of a Peppa Pig doll! The group received rave reviews from their audience and the children said the best part was the physical comedy presented when the fight scenes took place. A real effort was made by the students to create a chaotic atmosphere though well choreographed movement that highlighted the conflict between the characters. The group even included a Q&A style moment in their performance which had students reaching their arms as high as they could hoping to share their answers. Great job ladies!
Our second group, Olivia Cimino, Myah Donohue, Zoe Gill, Lara Kumar and Chloe Rice presented a dramatic representation of the much loved children’s book The Gruffalo. The piece incorporated incredible costumes and lots of fun props that transformed the St Clare’s school hall into a forest where a tense atmosphere was created as the Little Brown Mouse made his way through the forest convincing the animals that he was having lunch with a Gruffalo. It was so lovely to hear the uncontrollable giggles of our audience as our skilled actors took on the shapes and personality traits of the characters in their own unique way. The audience noted that their favourite part was making the animal noises and creating a soundscape when each character entered the stage. The group made a big effort to involve the audience in the performance which engaged the infant students immensely. Thank you for your work ladies!
Well done to our Year 10 Drama students on their excellent work preparing these performances for their live, infant audience! The students and teachers from St Clare’s really appreciated their presence and energy on the day. We thank the students for their service learning and sharing their skills in Drama in this unique way.
