HSIE News
The start to Term 2 has provided many opportunities for students in HSIE classes. Year 7 History mandatory are investigating life in Ancient Egypt, Year 8 Geography are analysing the factors which contribute to liveability, Year 9 History are learning about the nature of trench warfare during WWI, and Year 10 History are waiting with anticipation for their excursion to the Sydney Jewish Museum in Week 6.
As part of the study concerning liveability, 8HSI6 have been learning how to construct and interpret population pyramids. This included a team challenge where students interpreted data and then constructed population pyramids using Lego blocks. Students were then required to analyse the challenges posed by the population trends and propose solutions to the government in order to address the changes in demographics.

In Commerce, the most recent Year 9 Assessment Task assigned students to the roles of marketing managers and they were given the challenge of working in teams to launch a brand new product. In a Shark Tank-style business pitch students had to come up with creative ways to put a stop to slumping sales figures for the snack food company 'Marvellous Munchies'. Teams integrated product samples, advertising, and sample packaging in their pitches to promote their products. We clearly have some creative and successful future entrepreneurs among our HSIE students.
