HSIE News
HSIE News this week focuses on our Year 8 Geography students and their investigation into 'Place and Liveability'. Recently, many Year 8 Geography classes have been examining the varying experiences of children and how bedrooms around the world can be incredibly useful in studying the liveability of different locations.
Our report is courtesy of Kaizen and Caylia (8HSI4):
"Today in geography we were given instructions on how to work in groups to respond to a question as a group. We were given whiteboard markers to write about our understanding of the question “Where Children Sleep”. We had to brainstorm the impact of the factors that indicate where children sleep in groups of 2-4 and create a mindmap on it. We got straight into writing on the whiteboards and whiteboard tables writing down words, phrases, and locations relating to what we had previously learned about where children sleep. This activity helped us to further our understanding of the topic of liveability whilst having fun writing on the whiteboards and having a different style of lesson."
As we approach the end of Term 2, Year 8 Geography classes are now undertaking a comparative study of liveability across different countries. In many classes, students will have an opportunity to apply their understanding of the factors which impact liveability in creating their own society using Minecraft for Education.
