MISA Debating 2019
Magdalene's MISA Debating team have well and truly started their journey of success early on in the SWCCDA competition. Our dedicated Year 7 and 8 teams have been training tirelessly since day one.
Nerves and sweaty palms spread amongst our debaters for their first debate against John Therry on the 8th of May. After a heated debate, Year 7 won their first ever high school debate. Sighs of relief and smiles of triumph radiated the room! Soaking in all of the feedback from the adjudicators, our Year 7 team worked hard on improving their debating skills to defeat Broughton Anglican College yesterday in Round 2 (30th of May). Unstoppable and hungry for another round of success, they are ecstatic for Round 3!
Year 8 were unsuccessful against John Therry, however, their defeat did not sway them. Instead, it drove them to train even harder for Round 2, which proved to be fruitful as they confidently conquered the debate against Broughton Anglican College. A steady start but a quick comeback for our Year 8 team.
Miss Kathleen Angelopoulos and I would like to acknowledge and congratulate the following students in their committed involvement in debating and wish them the best of luck for Round 3:
Year 7: Andraya Liebrand, Charlize Jaensch, Fiorella Vecchio, Giselle Yacoub, Jasmine Lucas, Olivia Upfill
Year 8: Cameron Corr, Charlie Roberts, Marcus Attard, Stella Ryan, Teagan Pritchard, Timothy Wilson
We would also like to thank all of the parents and guardians for supporting these students by picking them up from training after school and attending debates. A special thanks to all of the teachers in their role of either adjudicating or passing on their best wishes and support.
Round 3, here we come!
Warm Regards,
Miss Jenny Nguyen
