This took place from the 17th January - 20th January, with our students arriving very early in Brisbane. Our Magdalene Students formed a team named "Orion" with James Ruse Agricultural High School, and St Michael's College. All three schools demonstrated excellent collaboration and teamwork skills.
Our 11 outstanding finalists were…
Isla Attard
Christine Brazier
Angelina Bampton
Isibeal Abbey
Sienna Bella
Charlotte Hawkins
Zachariah Belanszky
Lachlan Chadwick
Lachlan Campbell
Luca Saprun
Nicholas Simone
The task was to design a settlement in the L1 region of Space which can hold 1500 people in the year of 2055. The purpose of the settlement is to create a protective sun shield for Earth against damaging sun-rays and radiation. The team had 36 hours to create and present a 50-slide presentation, accompanied with a 20 minute speech from 8 selected students, in front of a large audience including a panel of 4 industry judges.
During the presentation, both Lachlan Campbell and Lachlan Chadwick from Magdalene represented our college with an exceptional degree of professionalism and enthusiasm.
We are pleased to announce that the team Orion, came 1st place in the competition, becoming our national Champions. Our students conducted themselves tirelessly with pride, respect, maturity and positivity over the weekend, and it’s well deserved. Select students will now have the opportunity to compete in Florida later this year for the international ASDC finals.
