Last week, our Year 8 students came together for a meaningful and energising Reflection Day at Magdalene Catholic College, centred on the inspiring theme: “Rising to New Heights.” Drawing on the image of a hot air balloon lifting off the ground, the day encouraged students to reflect on their personal growth, resilience, relationships, and faith.

Students participated in a range of engaging activities, including energetic icebreakers, group discussions, music, drama, inspiring video reflections and a crowd-favourite basketball challenge that focused on persistence and learning from failure.

With creative skits, uplifting karaoke moments, and even a live dramatisation of the story of Zacchaeus, students were challenged to reflect on how they treat others and how they can aim higher in their daily lives. Special thanks to Fr James for sharing his wisdom during his talk, and to all the dedicated staff who made the day such a success. Below are some student testimonies of the day:

Lucy Katon:
Our Year 8 Reflection Day was a fun and meaningful experience. Father James spoke to us about faith, values, and making positive choices in life, which really made us think. We also enjoyed some great activities, including a fun balloon game, a basketball shooting game that got everyone competitive, and karaoke, where we sang our hearts out. It was a perfect mix of reflection, laughter, and teamwork, helping us grow closer as a year group while learning more about ourselves and each other.

Our Year 8 Reflection Day was a fun and inspiring day. The day was filled with laughter, learning, and connection. We spent the day playing games with friends, strengthening our bonds and enjoying each other’s company. Father James shared thoughtful words that encouraged us to reflect on our values and faith. We also had a lot of fun singing during karaoke and cheering each other on. A highlight of the day was when we explored the meaning of success through basketball.
