Our team was comprised of Christina David (Year 10) who was selected as the team leader. Whilst Marcus Attard, Leila Reid, Charlie Roberts, Timothy Wilson were selected from Year 8 and Andraya Leibrand and Keira Predl from Year 7 to form our first ever STEM T.O.M Team, named ‘Bio Orbital Corps’. Which was a clever and direct link to the 6 Week STEM challenge detailed below.

Late last week the team was putting together their finishing touches to their performance and practical solution to the problem. Pictured below, you can see their DNA Carousel which surpassed the 3 revolutions required under its own stored energy system, through the cleaver and well-constructed and engineered timber bearing and centrifugal tension device.

With dedication and hard work put forward by all the members of the team, they have been awarded Honours in this year’s STEM Category of T.o.M placing them 2nd in the Secondary School competition. This is a fantastic achievement for all involved. Miss Manzin and Mr Gorrie, along with their parents were blown away with their presentation, as too were the judges on the day. We look forward to next year’s challenge and encourage more students to be involved.

Many thanks to the team and the school for their support of this rewarding competition.

Miss Sara Manzin and Mr Ian Gorrie.
