Principal's Report

SWIMMING CARNIVAL:

Well done Magdalene!

What a great day our 2020 annual swimming carnival was.

There were numerous challenges including light rain, wet assembly areas and the constant threat of heavy rain, but our students, staff and parent/carer community in attendance, stayed resilient and positive throughout the day and generally had great fun.

Given there was torrential rain in the days prior, and ominous forecasts for the day, it was great to students turning out in large numbers (over 700) and celebrating and/or competing extremely well. Our Year 12s got into the spirit of the day in their fancy dress and our House Captains did well to organise students in Pastoral Houses.

A number of records were broken in various age divisions (more details in the next newsletter) and the majority of students had broad smiles and were largely engaged throughout.

I particularly thank our new Sports Coordinator, Mrs Jodie Andruschko for her hard work and organisation, our dedicated PE staff and all other staff who assisted across the day.

PARENTS & FRIENDS ASSOCIATION:

Thank you to the parents/carers who attended Tuesday’s AGM and the first P & F meeting of 2020.

I thank our outgoing President Mr Steve Grabowski for his work across 2019. I also congratulate the following office bearers who have been successfully elected for this year:

Mr David Cornett returns as President (having previously held this position in previous years)

Mr Pablo Medina has been re-elected as the P & F Treasurer

Mrs Angela Young has been re-elected as the P & F Secretary

Please note that the P & F will be looking for volunteers to help run the P & F BBQ on our upcoming Open Afternoon and Evening (9 March).

YEAR 11 HSC ASSESSMENT EVENING:

Thank you to the majority of our Year 11s and parents/carers who attended on Tuesday night. Assessment booklets were distributed, and our families were able to meet with the Year 11 Coordinator and the Year 11 Pastoral Care Team. As always, if parents have any particular questions, they are to direct them to the relevant staff:

Pastoral Care Coordinator: Mrs Ivana Forner

Year 11 Coordinator: Ms Meaghan Tolhurst

Leader of Teaching and Learning: Miss Stephanie Phillips

Curriculum Coordinator: Mr Shaun Houghton

COMPASS:

Have you downloaded the Compass app yet?

The new Compass app (for our new Learning Management System – replacing Sentral) has first-rate functionality and will provide excellent means of communication. Some of these functions include but are not limited to: signing excursion notes, providing reasons for absences, booking parent/teacher/student interviews and accessing Student Reports.
