HSIE News
We have had an exciting fortnight in HSIE, filled with engaging classroom learning opportunities and sites studies in our courses. Content in our classes at the moment ranges from the discovery and preservation of ancient bog bodies in Year 7 History, plate tectonics and the formation of volcanoes in Year 8 Geography to the reasons for the Nazi consolidation of power and why so many people became collaborators in our current Year 10 History unit covering the Shoah.
All Year 10 History students had the opportunity to attend a site study to the Sydney Jewish Museum on the 28th of February 2020. During this site study students were able to hear the tesitimony of a Holocaust survivor and to examine a variety of artefacts and sources relevant to their current study. Many students were visibly moved by this opportunity and now have a greater understanding of the persecution of minority groups before and during World War II.
Our Year 11 Legal Studies students have been examining the hierarchy and jurisdiction of courts in New South Wales. During the past week, our students accepted the challenge to construct a diagram of the court components and were successful; this diagram is now proudly on display in their classroom.
Open Night was a success for our HSIE staff and students - we had many current and potential students come and visit our display which included water quality testing, a display of replica artefacts from ancient Egypt and an immersive experience which examined alternative food sources - crickets and mealworms were two of the options on offer.
