Principals Report

Magdalene’s response to COVID-19

I would like to personally thank our parent/carer and student community for their fantastic response to incredibly trying circumstances in recent weeks.

I do appreciate that you may feel inundated with recent communications from the College. However, I have to say I am very impressed by the way in which our students have embraced their new online platform and the way in which they have shown resilience, planning and hard work.

I commend our teachers as well as they accustom themselves to new online learning arrangements and protocols.

This stated, while we are hearing positive stories and feedback, we strongly encourage parents/carers to contact the relevant teacher, Leader of Learning or Year Coordinator if they need support or if there are any questions at all about lessons or Google Classroom. If there are any issues with direct communication with an individual, please contact the College Office.

Financial Difficulties

We are completely aware that recent shutdowns and business closures will make financial challenges a reality for many families.

Please remember (as per my letter “Measures to support families through the COVID-19 situation” on Wednesday) that Catholic Education Wollongong has provided the option for families to defer payment for up to four months and that the offer to seek fee support is a genuine one.

I will be speaking to our P & F early next term about ways in which we can promote businesses that have a connection to the Magdalene community when the COVID-19 situation improves in the future.

ENROLMENT APPLICATIONS – Year 7 2021

Please note that the deadline for applications (April 6) has not changed. Late applications will still be accepted – but we do make a clear note about the date/s when applications are submitted, and this may or may not impact on possible enrolment. Obviously, we would show understanding to anyone who was directly impacted by COVID-19 who submits a late application.

Given the potential issues of meeting with individuals, face-to-face and in close proximity, the College is currently exploring what enrolment interviews may look like next term.
