Year 10 English - Voices of Protest

Year 10 English are currently studying the Unit 'Voices of Protest'. They are analysing a variety of protest texts from different contexts and social issues.  Students of 10.4 were given 40 minutes to compose either a piece of writing or a visual representation that reflected an issue they felt strongly about.  Students had to choose their own topic and the form in which they wanted to convey their protest. Elana chose animal cruelty and composed this effective piece of protest poetry. Well done Elana, a great piece of writing.

Admit 1: Against Animal Circus’

They torture and tease, They force with ease, They

find it funny, and laugh and chuckle, Too bad for us,

we stand and buckle, From whips and chains to costumes and dancing,

Everyone loves us and they come in chanting.

“We sing! We sing! But only for money”, This one is good,

because it sticks like honey, The beautiful tyrants love like

all, But behind closed doors they say we are smug and

small. Please don’t hurt us, we scream and shout, But all

they do is pinch and pout.

My home was comfy, stable and gentle, But pushing

me here is cruel and driving us mental. We beg to

leave, “Please Let us Go”, But the crows and vultures

scream “”Oh God No!”.
