Technology Mandatory 7 & 8
Due to the possibility of going back into lockdown and COVID-19, we did hand sewing instead of using a sewing machine. We were taught how to sew using different techniques such as a blanket stitch, running stitch and french knot to complete our projects; a pencil case and keyring.
We could choose any design we wanted to do on our pencil cases and keyrings such as Minecraft, anime, animals, food, sport, and much more. We had 6 weeks to complete the practical work of this project and many weeks before to complete the theory and gather our ideas for our pencil case and keyring together.
The keyrings we made were designed, cut out, stuffed with wadding and then sewed back together with a ribbon allowing for the keychain to pass through.
In conclusion, the textiles project was completed in the allocated time we were given, the results were outstanding as we all walked away from this unit with 'unique' pencil cases and keyrings that reflected our personal interest.

Year 9 D&T have received their hand-carved ring wax castings back from Palloys Jeweller and have spent some time completing their filing, sanding and polishing of their brand new customised rings! Here are just a few of their outcomes, all of which have been transformed from Ideation through to prototyping and now a final product!
