Year 8 Geography Incursion
Year 8 Geography students came together on Tuesday 15th September to investigate water management at Magdalene Catholic College. The day involved three different field work activities including a water audit, examining the cost of water at our College and undertaking water analysis testing in order to investigate how we use water.
When examining the quality of water naturally occuring on site, Year 8 concluded the water quality is very good- using insect identification charts we were able to identify a range of nymph bugs, including the dragonfly nymph. Some students were also able to identify tadpoles and larva which are indicators of water quality.
During our analysis of the financial cost of water at Magdalene, we analysed water bills from the past twelve months. Noticeably, there was a significant decrease in the water bill during online learning! Water saving devices installed by Mr Trimarchi have also meant that we can more closely monitor and respond to changes in water usage.
Using the information from today's incursion, our next assessment in Year 8 Geography is to recommend one water management strategy which should be implemented at the College. The HSIE staff are eagerly anticipating reading these responses and the strategies which are suggested, perhaps we might even be able to consider some of these in the future!
