Prayer

There are a number of people in our Magdalene Community who are experiencing illness and debilitating diseases at the moment. Given this, this Newsletter’s Prayer invokes the healing powers of Saint Peregrine.

Saint Peregrine is known as the Patron Saint of cancer patients & others suffering serious illness. Initially, as a young man, he was against the Papacy, but he experienced a profound change of heart, much like St. Paul’s conversion in its intensity.

Saint Peregrine’s story is worth exploring further, but in short, he developed a devout faith, received a visitation from Mary and then, as a sign of his faith, was cured miraculously having had a life-threatening cancerous sore. He is known to have performed numerous miracles during his life and the Church has attributed hundreds, if not thousands, of cures from believers directing their prayers to him:

O great St. Peregrine, you have been called "The Mighty", "The Wonder-Worker," because of the numerous miracles you obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you. For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease which can destroy the very fibre of one’s being, yet you had recourse to the source of all grace when you could do no more. You were favoured with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God & Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you

(Let us pause and silently recall those who we know need our prayers at this time)

Aided in this way by your powerful intercession we ask for God’s goodness and mercy to help those who we just called to mind. Amen.
