UNIFORM
As indicated in previous communications, changes are afoot when it comes to the Magdalene Catholic College Uniform (including Sports Uniform).
Firstly, please note that there are no changes intended for 2020. Lowes remains our uniform supplier next year and the second-hand uniform store will operate as normal.
However, from 2021 the College’s new uniform supplier will be Noone (pronounced noon). Noone has been producing uniforms for schools since 1947 and are very impressive in many regards.
New uniform items will start appearing in 2021 and there will be a transition period for some year groups.
Year 7 2021, Year 10 2021 (current Year 8 2019) and Year 11 2021 (current Year 9 2019) will be the first year groups who will have a new uniform.
More details will follow in the new year.
HSC Results & Release of ATAR results
This year HSC results will be released at 6am on Tuesday 17th December.
There has been a change in when ATAR results are released this year. In previous years they were released the day after HSC results were released. However, this year they will ALSO be released (on the relevant app) at 1pm several hours after the HSC results (17th December).
We wish our Year 12 cohort of 2019 all the very best and invite them to the HSC/ATAR Congratulatory Morning Tea at 10am on Wednesday 18th December. This is a Celebration Morning Tea - to recognise the formal end of study of our Year 12s and to commend each other on various achievements.
Staffing
I would like to thank all our staff for their ongoing work. We are very fortunate at Magdalene and have an incredible staff- who are incredibly generous and talented.
At the end of 2019 we will say goodbye to a number of staff members.
I would, therefore, like to thank and acknowledge the significant work of the following staff members.
The following staff will be retiring (although we may see a few of them in the future in a casual capacity):
Mrs Geraldine Spencer, Mr Kevin Wright, Mrs Gemma Brislane, Mrs Sue Byrnes, Mrs Margaret Macmillan
The following permanent staff have found employment elsewhere from 2020:
Mr Duncan Beh, Ms Sheila Antal, Ms Elaine Hornas, Mrs Blair Colella
We would like to thank the following staff who have been on temporary contracts:
Mr Simon Quinn, Miss Jenny Nguyen, Mr Alan Chapman, Mr James Earl, Ms Andrea Blok, Ms Elke Birt, Mrs Margaret Monger
I also wish the following staff who have been seconded by other Diocesan Catholic Schools in 2020:
Mr Dave Hogan, Mrs Nicole Hulme
We wish them every success!
While the focus for this prayer surrounds our families and Advent, our prayers and intentions also include all those who have suffered in recent times, whether from drought, fire, evacuation and/or the victims in the horrible volcanic disaster in New Zealand.
We are mindful of those who have lost lives and their families, the injured and/or those who have lost hope.
While we often cannot imagine their losses, suffering and/or grief, we offer our heartfelt and prayerful thoughts to all those affected. We also give thanks to God to all those providing much-needed assistance, especially those working in Emergency services, and those aiding the afflicted.
Advent Prayer for Families
Heavenly Father, Your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us; a great sign of Your love.
Guide us as we strive to walk in that love together as a family this Advent.
As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, bring us closer to each other and to Your son.
Give us the grace and strength we need every day. Help us to always trust in You.
Come, Lord Jesus, lead all people closer to You.
Come and dispel the darkness of our world with the light of your love.
- Amen

On the evening of Tuesday 3rd December Magdalene Catholic College celebrated the artistic talent and hard work of Visual Arts and Photography students at the Annual Magdalene Impressions Exhibition. This event provided an opportunity to showcase the high quality and diverse range of artistic work at Magdalene. On display were works from Year 7 to Year 12 students including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, digital media and photography. Particularly impressive this year was the range and strength of the Year 12 Higher School Certificate Bodies of Work. Students should be very proud of their artistic achievements.
Special guest, Laura Zanatta spoke fondly about her experience as a Visual Arts student at Magdalene achieving a Band 6 in the 2012 Higher School Certificate. Currently, Laura is the Digital Communications Officer at Wollondilly Shire Council where her artistic skills in Visual Design and media are employed on a daily basis as she manages the website and visual communications material for the Council. We were also joined by special guests Mr John Lo Cascio, past principal of Magdalene Catholic College and current Head of School Improvement Services (Secondary) for the Wollongong Diocese as well as Mr Carlos Vanegas from CnN Cleaning Services. Both Mr Lo Cascio and Mr Vanegas are strong supporters of the Visual Arts at Magdalene and presented students from each class with their prizes for ‘Excellence in Art or Photography’ and ‘Effort and Diligence’. In addition, major prizes, donated by the Parents and Friends Association, were awarded to Year 12 Visual Arts student Peter Cornett and Year 9 Photography student Bethany Hooper.
